Preparing the Morning Meal (14 May)

[10:04]  ℂℓy (clysa.dragoone): stretches with care, cly slips from the furs as the sounds of early morning woke her from her sleep. rising so not to disturb her chain sisters and their Jarl, she gently eases down the steps to the main part of the cabin. filling a small bowl of water and setting out a cloth for her Jarl for him to refresh himself when he wakes; cly gently slips on her kirtle just as she steps outside quietly.
breathing in the fresh crisp air, cly crosses through the village heading to the bakery to start preparing the morning meal for the Free. pulling her long ginger locks back from her face as she enters the bakery. letting her steely eyes adjust to the dimness within the building she makes her way back to the kitchen. crouching by the fire pit, she adds a few extra dry logs to the almost dying ambers. carefully blowing upon them to rekindle the flames. smiling as she watches the growing warmth, she slowly rises to her full heigth to do what is needing to be done.
fetching a few bowls for mixing, kettles and pots, cly began

[10:04]  ℂℓy (clysa.dragoone): to prepare the meal by starting on making fresh sa-tarna bread. taking some sa-tarna meal, vulo eggs, salt and water, she combines and mixes the ingredients together upon thee counter. needing the bread mixture she hums softly to herself as she works. splitting and rolling several loaves, she places them to the side under some rep clothes to rise before placing them onto the oven rack.
as she waits for the bread to rise, cly turns herr attention to start preparing a kettle of blackwine. her Jarl had returns from a trip down south with a full shipment of ground blackwine powder for the trading post to sell. filling a large kettle pot with water, she places that over the fire to heat, while she turns and scoops some powder into a serving kettle, so once the water was heated she could add it to the blackwine powder to mix and be ready to serve.
moving back to the grill area of the kitchen she places a large pan upon the grill as she starts to crack open several vulo eggs. letting them fry, she went and placed thee bread upon thee oven rack to start baking. she then turns and cut a few slices from a left over roasted bosk from the night before, to grill up and heat.

[10:04]  ℂℓy (clysa.dragoone): fetching several platters, she places the eggs upon one and the grilled bosk upon the other. setting theem upon the counter for any to just serve themselves, she checks on the sa-tarna bread. seeing that it baked to a golden brown, she smiles as she uses thick repclothes to remove the bread and places them within a basket upon the counter.
looking about as she starts to clean up her baking mess. she gathered the bowls, keettle and pans and washes them with the left over hot water she had heated. taking a dry rep cloth, cly dried and returned all the items into their proper place before slipping from the bakery with a spare serving tray that she carries a plate with several vulo eggs, a few slices of bosk meat, a roll of sa-tarna bread and a mug of blackwine to serveer to her Jarl, when he wakes.

Gorean Life (video)

The Gorean Laws

These here, are just a few of the Gorean laws, based from the books. There is an average of one hundred and thirty-three or so laws within Gorean terms.

Now, I’m not encouraging any to remember all these laws. But, to keep in mind, for there are a few sites online, that might enforce them. So, keep weary and always read before acting, whenever online.

1 Once outside the city wall, it’s laws will no longer apply and the city will not protect you. But, there are a few exceptions to this rule. First, certain locations that are located outside the city, called banner keeps or Merchant Keeps, that the city has full legal control and is governed by the city’s laws. And second, the Merchant Law, extends past the city walls, protecting commerce. Thus, it binds many of the cities of Gor.

2 Many cities may have one gate, know as the Sun Gate, a primary gate that is only open from dawn to dusk. Most cities might have a special night gate, that allows citizens to enter and leave at night.

3 Members of the Players Caste (Players, Poets, Musicians and Singers) may freely enter any city. Anyone else, who enters without permission, is punished by impalement.

4 All Outlaws (including Panther Girls and Talunas) are forbidden entrance into the city and subject to impalement.

5 Assassins, who bears the mark of the black dagger upon their forehead, are permitted, without interference, to enter any city.

6 To claim unowned land, outside the city, places a yellow stake of claimancy into the ground at dawn until dusk, protecting the land. When dusk falls, the land is claimed with a Home Stone.

7 Citizenship is a privilege, not a right. All must actively apply for it as well as to earn it throughout life. Mostly when reaching the intellectual majority, all must perform the citizenship ceremony. And the specifics of the ceremony will vary from city to city.

8 If the citizenship ceremony isn’t performed, within one year of reaching intellectual majority, will be punished by expulsion from the city. This applies only to those who are born within the city or born to the those of the city.

9 One benefit of citizenship, is that it provides protection against foreign creditors. Of course, it is unknown to whether this area is covered by Merchant Law or not.

10 Any can renounce an existing citizenship and acquire citizenship in another city. Obviously, all must be accepted by the other city as a citizen, meeting all prerequisites that are in place.

11 Only members of the High Caste maybe elected for High Council of a city. Each of the five High Castes, can vote for their own representative on the High Council.

12 Only members of the High Caste may vote for a city’s Administrator or to appoint an Ubar. Low Castes doesn’t possess any voting rights.

13 Each city determines which Castes and sub-castes will be legally recognized.

14 It is legally permissible to change one’s Caste, though most Goreans would not willingly change their Caste, being proud of their Caste no matter how low it might be. Otherwise, to change Caste, the High Council of the city must approve the change, based on qualifications for the new Caste and the willingness of the new Caste to accept the person.

15 By law, the Slaver’s Caste is a sub-caste of the Merchant’s Caste. The Slaver Caste though often prefers to consider themselves as a separate Caste. It is unknown to whether this determination is part of Merchant Law or not.

16 A Free Companionship, the Gorean form of marriage, last for a single year. If not renewed by the twentieth Ahn of the anniversary date, it will automatically dissolve.

17 A person may have only one Free Companion at a time. In the equatorial jungles, men may posses multiple companions.

18 A Free Companionship will dissolve earlier than one year, if one of the parties is either enslaved or dies.

19 Forgery of an official city seal on mercantile products is illegal. This is to help protect the integrity of official city products.

20 Patents, which cover inventions or copyrights, which cover written materials, are available in a city, but their power extends only as far as the city wall. Thus, many craftsmen and manufacturers, keep their formulas and plans in cipher, to protect them from theft and unauthorized copying.

21 It is a felony to forge or falsify pedigree papers on any slave. Such papers might include information on brand type, number of different measurements, type of training received; a place for sales endorsements for when a slave changes hands and a remark section for miscellaneous information.

22 The theft of a Home Stone, maybe one of the most heinous crimes that exists on Gor. Despite this, the theft of an enemy’s Home Stone is also considered the greatest of glories, showing that the thief is favored by the Priest-Kings.

21 Thievery is illegal and harshly punished. First offence is punished by an ear notching. After that, the penalties for subsequent offences will vary by city and gender. In most cities, a Free Woman, found guilty of a second offence is enslaved. If a Free Man is found guilty of a second offence, he often will lose one of his hands.

22 Robes of concealment and veils, may or may not be required by law for Free Women. In some cities, it is only custom, while in others it is an actual law. An unveiled Free Woman is susceptible to be taken into custody by guardsmen, then to be veiled, by forced if necessary. Repeated offences can even lead to enslavement. Even where it is only custom, it is strongly recommended that all Free Women wear robes and veils in public.

23 In cities, where robes and veils for Free Women are not legally mandatory, there are other laws restricting on how much bare skin a Free Woman may show. If too much skin is shown, then the woman is subject to possible enslavement.

24 A Free Woman, who submits to a particular man, when there is no captured involved, may or may not become a slave. This will be dependent upon city law.

25 A Free Woman can sell herself into slavery. But, once the sale is complete, the woman cannot then revoke it.

26 Any Free Woman, who couches with Another’s slave or readies herself to couch with Another’s, become herself a slave and the slave of the slave’s Owner.

27 There are two basic legal statuses on Gor: Free and slave. Unless you are legally owned, then you are considered technically free, even if you are a prisoner, captive or outlaw. As a Free Person, they possess legal rights that slaves do not possess.

28 According to Merchant Law, a person is considered to be a prisoner and not a slave, as long as they have not been branded, collared or performed any gesture of submission.

29 Legally, slaves are considered property, on the same level as domestic animals. Their Owners may do anything they wish to them without repercussion. Their power over their own slave is absolute.

30 Slaves may not own anything, not even their own names.

31 When a person is enslaved, they begin a new life as a slave and may not be held accountable for any crimes that accrued while they were Free.

32 Any Free Person may discipline an insolent or errant slave, even one who is in the least displeasing. If the slave is killed or injured, the Free Person needs only to pay compensation to the Owner and only if the Owner requests such compensation. This of course, does not give any the right to injure or kill someone else’s slave. It simply states the penalty for such a violation.

33 If a lost, stolen or runaway slave is taken by another person, the original Owner has only one week to regain Their property before legal title passes to the new Owner.

34 For a slave to runaway from their Owner, is a serious offense.

35 It is the right of all people, Free and slave, to receive the Stabilization Serums, the Gorean life extension treatment. This maybe one of the only rights that a slave possesses.

36 Freed slaves are required to have explicit papers of manumission or they maybe enslaved without repercussion. Slaves, who have been branded or had their ears pierced and later freed, should definitely keep their papers handy at all times.

Slave Positions

Bara ******** : Punishment position, girl on her belly, hands behind back wrists crossed, ankles crossed, head to the left... bound, thrown to your stomach, wrists pulled, crossed and bound behind your back, ankles crossed and bound together at times also another piece of binding fiber may be used to bind your wrists and ankles completely together, bowing your back in order to do so, in this way the slave is unable to move at all.

Belly ******** : Submissive position, girl on her belly, hands at the sides with palms up, legs spread wide, head to the left, resting her chin on the Master's feet. in this position you go to your stomach at the Masters feet, placing your chin to his feet and kissing them before turning your head and placing your cheek to his feet...if you a distance from him and are ordered to position -you would crawl upon your belly, using your fingers and toes, as well as shimmying your body across the floor to reach him where then you would kiss his feet and place your cheek against them.. if you REALLY want to show your trust and submissiveness, you would place his foot to rest upon your neck before placing hands behind back, giving him complete control of your life.

Blanket ****** :When a blanket or cloak or covering of any sort is thrown over a slave girl she may not speak or rise; she must remain silent until the blanket is lifted by a free person.

Bracelets ******* : her hips slightly turned to one side, her back and shoulders erect, her wrists crossed behind her back and her head turned to the left, in anticipation of having slave bracelets attached to her wrists; by the book, you would turn your back to the Master to have the bracelets attached, to give them better access to your wrists, making things as easy as is possible for them by the book..volume 5..page 214.. Bracelets: wrists brought behind the back and extended out, head thrown back, and to one side, Turn your back to the Master so the bracelets can be attached.

Capture*******lays down on back, bending knees to place feet flat on the ground, hands at sides and remains motionless.

Collaring ******* the slave kneels at the Master's feet and leans her body back, sitting upon her heels, with her arms extended upward, crossed at the wrists, and her head beneath them lowered in supplication...this is known as by the book submit if you are told to submit to somebody this is what they are speaking of you doing.. now. .you have two choices.. they have to collar you or kill you...it is the Master's code.. if you wish to lay yourself COMPLETELY to their hands.. you MAY lay your hands, once crossed into His, it would show your complete submission and giving of yourself

Crawl ******* gets down on all fours, palms to elbows flat on floor...buttocks in the air...forehead close but not touching the floor....crawls to just an inch from Master's feet. this is also most often a punishment position, if you have done badly...and KNOW you have done EXTREMELY wrong..you may do this crawl to go to your Master or Mistress to beg forgiveness; do NOT want to drag your forehead on the ground here.

Display*******stands, feet about shoulder's width apart, fingers laced behind the neck with elbows back, head up and eyes lowered.

Gorean Bow ******** kneels in nadu position, she bends her body backwards, her head to the floor; she places her hands by her head, and pulls up into a back bend. (this position is very painful to maintain for longer than 5 min) Hair ****** the slave stands, her feet flat on the floor, and bows gracefully at the waist, so that her hair might fall forward for display, or to be shorn, seized, or used for any purpose that the Master desires. as you know many things are done with your hair from being led around, wiping dust from an object, to bathing your Master

Hair*******Bends at the waist at Owner's side to be lead by the hair, never rising.

Heel ******* goes to Master and kneels in nadu behind and to his left...one step back and one step sideways awaits further orders...this command MAY follow lesha the Master may also command this position of you without the leash if he knows he can trust you..in accordance with volume 11 you would stay to his LEFT side.. by keeping 1-2 steps back..you would be well enough out of the way if he should have to draw his sword..you will have no problem keeping your pretty neck..by the book...volume 11...if you are seen on the Masters right side it is said to be thought that the slave is in disfavour.. many times, if you are with the Master, following him in heel...and in a busy place, he may require you to press your body to his left shoulder and back..so that he will know you are with him, but that is rarely done.

High-Harness*******holds head very high, exposing the neck.

Karta ******** kneels and touches her forehead to the floor ... stretches her arms out before her with palms face down and fingers spread. as stated earlier you would immediately drop into nadu, and describe position. (kar-ta....is at the entry) kar-ta is most widely used at the door to beg entry...; tis also the position that is used to beg anything.

Kneel at the Coffle*******nadu, and lift either the left or right wrist outward, depending on the type of coffle, so that the wrist can be attached to a wrist ring within the coffle chain.

Leading*******moves behind Owner, slightly to the left or right side, depending on which hand is dominant, bending at the waist, with hands behind back and placing the side of the head to the Owner's hip, that way can be lead by the hair while walking.

Lesha ******** Standard kneeling position, girl on her knees, eyes lowered. Her chin up, her head high and turned to the left so a leash may be attached to her collar, with her chin up and her back and shoulders straight. Her wrists are extended behind her, side by side, in a position to be locked into chained slave bracelets.

Nadu ******** This position is meant to be a proud one for the slave, her head high in the honor of serving you. In this position the slave kneels, she sits upon her heels with her shoulders and back straight, her breasts thrust out her belly in, and her head held high and her eyes lowered in respect. Her thighs widely spread, her hands rest upon her thighs palms up.

Nestle*******fits against the Owner's side, snuggling into the crook of the arm.

Obedience*******lays on belly, down beside Owner, placing chin on feet.

Obeisance ***** The slave goes to the floor, laying upon her stomach, face down before the Master. She turns her head and places her cheek against his feet, kissing them lightly in a gesture of love and submission. you can even place their foot to rest upon your neck would NOT suggest you use this position with just anyone.

Prostrate*******kneeling, forehead to floor, arms stretched out with palms faced down and fingers spread.

Run*******runs, keepin legs rigid and unbending at the knees, short rapid steps. Feet must stay close to the surface of floor or ground.

She-Sleen ****** the slave falls to her hands and knees, her head down on the floor, her hindquarters up thrust for viewing and/or her Masters pleasure (either sexual or whipped upon the bottom)...serving in this position of the she-sleen is an instruction whereby the slave performs her regular duties while upon her hands and knees without the benefit of the use of her hands, now in this position she may NOT rise to her feet and may use only her mouth and teeth to grasp and manipulate objects...this position can be one of either punishment or pleasure.

She-Quadruped*******used for punishment. Stays on all fours, like an animal and cannot speak or reach for things with hands. Sometimes, even tricks are taught without the help of verbal clues.

Slaver's Kiss ******* The slave falls to the floor upon all fours, and lowers her head to the ground, with her buttocks thrust upward and her thighs widely spread, exposing her hindquarters fully in preparation for the caress of the whip.

Slave Lips ***** the slave turns her head up to the Master, her lips pursed in a sensual kissing position. She remains motionless, her lips thusly puckered, and may not move until she is granted the kiss of a Master...by the book, volume 3 page 235, the description is...lips: go to your Master, when ordered, and show your love for Him, kissing Him and savoring His lips

Slave Rape*******there are many types, but the standard is to lay still and supine in preperation to be raped.

Standard Binding*******lay on the ground, wrists crossed behind the back with ankles crossed, ready to be binded by fibers or bracelets.

Submission*******kneels bends at waist, places cheek to the floor, takes the Owner's right foot and places it upon the neck, crossing wrists behind the back.

Sula ********* a slave lays upon her back, her hands at her sides, palms upward, her legs widely spread, left knee bent and pushed out a bit, eyes lowered, to await her Master's pleasure. Now this position IS in the book, but it was not given a name; specifically it was in volume 6; most often this position would be done in the privacy of an alcove, when you are pleasuring your Master

Sula-ki ******** This position is almost identical to the Sula position, except once the slave has assumed the Sula position she slowly lifts her hips up off the floor, as if beckoning him with her body, encouraging her sexual use by him. here, your feet would be planted on the floor, knees bent so you can raise your body up to him, once you are in the air...stay still, do NOT pump the air.

Table*******move to hands and knees, locking elbows, knees spread and firmly to the floor, make back smooth and level, head held level ((can be used to set things on or as a foot rest)).

Tower **** she kneels with her knees together & with her wrists crossed in front of her, as if for binding, palms flat and facing downward (for one is not offering) Also, male slaves are to kneel in tower at all times, unless told otherwise.

Usage*******on hands and knees, legs parted widely, head straight, hair falling across back, remains motionless, waiting for commands.

Walk *** When this command is given, a slave turns gracefully, her hair caressing her body as she turns. She walks quietly across the room, her feet hardly seeming to leave the ground, her hips swaying sensually, her body erect and proud. When she reaches her objective she halts and stands, her body erect, her shoulders back, her chest thrust forward, her belly in. She turns her hips out a bit, her hands at her sides, and points one foot. Her chin is held high and her eyes are lowered.

Whipping *** A slave quickly drops to her knees and raises her hips. She places her head to the floor and then crosses her arms across her belly. She waits motionless ready to accept her Master's punishment. Slave's with long hair will pull their hair from their backs so their backs are exposed for the whip.

What is Gor?

Now, the simplest answer as to what Gor is is that it is also known as the Counter-Earth. A fictitious planet, which is supposed to be within the same orbit as Earth, but on the opposite side of the Sun.
Ruled by steel and concerned with honor, Gor is a barbaric world, where slavery is an ancient and universally accepted institution. Technologically advanced aliens, known as the Priest-Kings, who are the overseers of Gor, monitoring and protecting the planet. Over a period of thousands of years, the Priest-Kings have transported numerous people from Earth to Gor. Restricting the Goreans from using many forms of technology, even though they do excel within a few limited areas, where their technology even surpasses those of Earth. As an example, Gorean Physicians have created the Stabilization Serums, a cure for aging. Such a cure would be considered as priceless on Earth.
Now, on Gor, slavery is an ancient, historically developed institution. There are over hundreds of aspects and facets, with legal, social and aesthetic, it is very complexed. Slavery has its basis in the biological differences between men and women. Goreans has accepted slavery as a natural part of life, where male dominance is pervasive among mammals and universal among primates. There are few, who questioned its basic validity.
Within Gorean mythology, it provides a story, justifying the creation of slavery. It tells that long ago, there was a war between the men and women of Gor. That at the end, the women were defeated by the men. The Priest-Kings intervene, to prevent the men from killing all the women that they made the women beautiful. This was to entice the men of Gor to want to keep them instead of slaying them. But, as the price for their beauty, the Priest-Kings has decreed that the women of Gor would forever be the slaves of men. To serve and to please them.
Now, sometime in the past, there were a series of wars, loosely known as the Slave Wars. It went on and off, over a period of time, occurring among various cities within the middle latitudes. Even though the wars involved a large-scale slaving, there were other causes within conflict. Such as, the levying of tribute and the control of the trade routes. Thus, the wars developed most of the sanitation of slavery as a commodity, evolving the concern of slavery throughout the Merchant Law.
This brings the understanding of "What Gor is?" A brief overlook and out line of its history and people.

The Re-Collaring of the Bonds

[16:30]  Hania Rae: smiles watching nods to Rajaah
[16:30]  rajaah: tells his girl to come forward to him
[16:31]  SolaraLove: "Aye my Jarl"..solara responds smiling softly as she moved forward toward her Jarl

Ceremony Tonight

"He then drew with the handle of his ax a circle, some twenty feet in diameter, in the dirt  floor of the circle.
It was a bond-maid circle."....."Go to the bond-maid circle," said Ivar Forkbeard, indicating the circle he had drawn in the dirt.
The women cried out in misery. To enter  the circle, if one is a female, is, by the laws of Torvaldsland, to declare oneself a bond-maid.  A woman, of course, need  not to enter the circle of her own free will.  She may, for example, be thrown within it, naked and bound.  Howsoever she enters the circle, voluntarily, or by force, free or secured, she emerges from it, by the laws of Torvaldsland, as a bond-maid."
                                                                                               -Marauders of Gor

"Look up at me," said the smith.
The slender, blond girl, tears in her eyes, looked up at him.
He opened the hinged collar of black iron, about a half inch in height. He put it about her throat. It also contained a welded ring, suitable for the attachment of a chain.
"Put your head beside the anvil," he said.
He took her hair and threw it forward, and thrust her  neck against the left side of the anvil. Over the anvil lay the joining ends of the two pieces of the collar. The inside of the collar was separated by a quarter of an inch from her neck. I saw the fine hairs on the back of her neck. On one part of the collar are two, small, flat, thick rings. On the other is a slngle such ring. These rings, when the wings of the collar are joined, are aligned, those on one wing on top and bottom, that on the other in the center. They fit closely together, one on top of the other. The holes in each, about three-eighths of an inch in diameter, too, of course, are perfectly aligned. The smith, with his thumb, forcibly, pushed a metal rivet through the three holes. The rivet fits snugly.
"Do not move your head, Bond-maid," said the smith.
Then, with great blows of the iron hammer, he riveted the iron collar about her throat. A man then pulled her by the hair from the anvil and threw her to one side. She lay there weeping, a naked bondmaid, marked and collared."
                                                                                                -Marauders of Gor

That's right, tonight between 5 or 6 eastern time or 2 or 3 secondlife time, there will be a ceremony of special sort. As part of opening the new land of Rondvik, both the Chieftain and the First Ax has decided to do a re-collaring of all the bonds within the village. Plus, the freeing of a brave thrall shall also be brought to light tonight.

Hail to Odin and the Priest-Kings to all Gorean hearts for this coming night upon this land.

Weapons, Shields and Helmets

SWORDS

Shortsword / Gladius

Approximately 20 to 24 inches in length from hilt tip to blade tip and 3 to 4 inches wide, descending to a pointed tip. The grip is generally either of polished wood or leather. This is the basic weapon of the warrior in Gor, it is generally carried, in a sheath slung over the shoulder,or worn at the hip.

Longsword

The longsword is used mostly by those of Torvaldsland. It's blade is approximately 30 to 36 inches in length. It is carried in a belt scabbard or strapped across its user's back. The blade is forged in the Damascus manner, steel, both hard and soft are beaten together under heat and folded within itself and beaten flat again. This creates a blade that is both flexible and virtually unbreakable.

Scimitar

The sword of choice in the Tahari, This razor sharp, curved blade is generally about 30 to 36 inches long. The back 3-8 inches has a false edge that can be sharpened for back slashes. Like the longsword it has better reach, which can be an advantage when mounted upon the kailla. Slower to draw and slower to wield than the shortsword it is still a deadly weapon.

KNIVES

Quiva

Usually part of a set of seven such weapons, it has a narrow double edged blade 9 to 12 inches in length with a handle of wood, bone, or horn. Its razor sharp blade tapers to a needle point. Designed for use primarily as a missile weapon, the quiva is also used as a hand weapon and general utility knife. The steel used in making the quiva comes from the foundries of Ar. Also known as the Tuchuk Saddle Knife, the quiva is a dagger favored by the Wagon People, but carried by most FreeWomen and many Warriors, sheathed and hung on the side of a warrior's saddle.

Killing knife

A small dagger with a blade from 4 to 6 inches long. Unlike the quiva it is tapered only on one side and not double edged. Carried by many due to its small size.

Hook knife

The hook knife is very similar to the utility knife found on earth. A short, wide blade, narrowing to a downward curve, ending in a sharp point. When used in recreational spars, the knife remains sheathed so as not to injure the opponent. The knife is seldom used for other than stadium fighting, weather sheathed or not.

Sleen knife

This is a broad bladed, flat, double edged utility knife equipped with a simple stubby crossguard and unadorned grip . Rather than tapering down to a needle like point like the quiva it's point is more rounded.

Tarn knife

This is a short bladed, single edged utility knife typically used by tarnsmen and generally included among their saddle equipment. Some knives are designed so that the blade folds into the handle for safety when not in use. Often equipped with a lanyard so that it may be lashed to the tarnsman's saddle or belt.

BOWS

Great Bow / Long Bow

The bow is not commonly favored by Gorean warriors, but all must respect it. It is the height of a tall man; its back, away from the bowman, is flat; its belly, facing the bowman, is half-rounded; it is something like an inch and a half wide and an inch and a quarter thick at the center; it has considerable force and requires considerable strength to draw; many men, incidentally, even some warriors, cannot draw the bow; nine of its arrows can be fired aloft before the first falls again to the earth; at point-blank range it can be fired completely through a four-inch beam; at two hundred yards it can pin a man to a wall; at four hundred yards it can kill the huge, shambling bosk; its rate of fire is nineteen arrows in a Gorean Ehn, about eighty Earth seconds; and a skilled bowman, but not an extraordinary one, is expected to be able to place these nineteen arrows in one Ehn into a target, the size of a man, each a hit, at a range of some two hundred and fifty yards. Yet, as a weapon, it has serious disadvantages, and on Gor the crossbow, inferior in accuracy, range and rate of fire, with its heavy cable and its leaves of steel, tends to be generally favored. The long bow cannot well be used except in a standing, or at least kneeling, position, thus making more of a target of the archer; the long bow is difficult to use from the saddle; it is impractical in close quarters, as in defensive warfare or in fighting from room to room; and it cannot be kept set, loaded like a firearm, as can the crossbow;...

Horn bow / Short bow

About four feet long there are a number of varities of this bow on Gor. the best known, most popular is of course the horn bow of the Wagon People, The Red savages use one made of layered wood banded together as do the northern peoples, these often called ship bows. While not as powerful as the long bow or cross bow they have a big advantage over the long bow in their ability to be used in tight places, their rate of fire is much faster than the crossbow. A Wagon Person can fire twenty arrows in half an Ehn. The Red Savages use a small bow and there is no other bow that can match its rate of fire. It is very maneuverable and can be easily concealed.

Crossbow, standard

A standard weapon of Gor. It consists of a heavy, flexible bow of tempered steel, 18" across mounted on a heavy wooden stock about two feet long, with a trigger mechanism at the bottom. Striking with enough force to penetrate wooden walls, doors or human bodies with relative ease. It has an effective range of approximately 150 yards. Slow to reload, it is commonly redrawn through use of a goat's-foot hook or a crank.

Calvary crossbow

Much like the larger crossbow, instead of possessing a metal bow, it has a much lighter bow of wood or horn. Slightly smaller in size, it is still a powerful weapon. It is equipped with a metal stirrup at the firing end, allowing it to be more quickly restrung while on the back of a tarn or kaiila.

SPEARS AND LANCES

War spear

One of the most common weapons on Gor, its versatility makes it a very popular weapon, used for fighting and hunting.

Kaiili lance

The lances of both the wagons people and the red savages are much the same. The red savages tend to decorate and carve theirs more than the wagon people.

Tharlarion lance

More a spear than a true lance, it is usually fashioned of ka-la-na or needle wood. About ten to fourteen feet long. It has a lanceolate metal tip that is about four inches in width and is often fluted. Carried couched beneath the right arm of the user, often supported by a lance rest which is either attached to the saddle or worn strapped to the user's chest. Can also be thrown, though not designed for it.

Trident

Three pronged spearing fork used by fishermen of Gor. The trident can be used as both a thrusting weapon and as a weapon to be thrown. often used with the net, it is about seven feet in length, with 3 prongs 12 to 16 inches long. Often used with a line attached, for retrieval should it be thrown

Harpoon

A spear fitted with a barbed head and used with line attached to assist in retrieval.

AXES

Great Axe

Similar to the Torvaldslander Battle Axe, but much larger, with a handle up to four feet in length. The axe blade is also much larger. This axe must be used two handed as it is too big to be weilded effectivly with one.

WHIPS

Bosk Whip

Much like an earth bull whip. Made of Bosk hide plaited together. This whip can be anywhere from 8 to 12 feet long.

Kurt Whip

A slave whip with five broad, pliant straps. Each strap is about two and a half feet long and one and a half inches wide. The handle is eighteen inches long. Though it may leave a welt, it doesn't permanently mark a victim.

Snake Whip

A single-bladed whip, weighted, of leather. It is about eight feet long and half an inch to one inch thick. It is sometimes set with tiny particles of metal. It is a deadly whip and can easily strip flesh from the body. It can kill a Man.

Whip Knife

The whip knife, unique to Port Kar, is a delicate weapon. It is a whip, but set into its final 18 inches, on 5 tassels or strips of hide, arranged in sets of four, are twenty thin, narrow blades. Their tips vary. Some have a double-edged blade of seven to eight inches at the tip while others have a stunning lead.

MISC. WEAPONS

Knife Gauntlet

A pair of leather gauntlets, upon which are mounted knife blades. Sometimes used by gladiators in arena combats. These are seldom used as weapons of war.

Goad, tarn or slave

While not truly weapons, the tarn goad can stun. The slave goad on the other hand can kill.

Bola

A favorite weapon of the Wagon People . fighting mainly from the backs of their kaiila, they become very proficient with the use of this weapon. used for both hunting and battle .

War Club

A carved, shaped club of wood or bone, often mounted with stone or metal projections such as sharp pieces of flint, nails or knife blades driven into the wood . This weapon is about two or three feet in length. Used mostly by the Red Savages.

Rope

SHIELDS

Common Shield

A round shield; generally about 24 to 36 inches in diameter, the shield is sufficient in size to cover the main part of the torso. The shield is made of 7-9 layers of bosk hide stretched over a lightweight framework of wood, iron or horn. It has two straps on the inside that one's arm would slide through, holding it at the forarm and wrist. This is the most common type of shield on Gor .

Turian Shield

An oval shield about 24 inches by 36 inches, this shield is also constructed of hide like it's round cousin.

Buckler

A small oval shield about 16 to 18 inches. While this shield was made of steel on earth, on Gor it is, like all other shields made of leather.

HELMETS

Common Helmet

Above the shield was a suspended helmet, again reminiscent of a Greek helmet, perhaps of the Homeric period. It had a somewhat 'Y'-shaped slot for the eyes, nose, and mouth in the nearly solid metal.

Northern Helmet

The helmets of the north are commonly conical, with a nose-guard, that can slip up and down. At the neck and sides, attached by rings, usually hangs a mantle of linked chain. The helmet of Thorgard himself, however, covered his neck and the sides of his face. It was horned.

Helmet of the Wagon Peoples

A conical, fur-rimmed iron helmet, a net of colored chains depending from the helmet protecting his face, leaving only holes for the eyes.

Captain's Helmet

Carved in wood, high on the chair, was the helmet with crest of sleen-fur, the mark of the captain.

Assassin's Helmet

On the left temple of the black helmet was the golden slash of the messenge

"I saw four small milk bosk grazing on the short grass. In the distance, above the acres, I could see mountains, snow capped. A flock of verr, herded by a maid with a stick, turned, bleating on the sloping hillside. She shaded her eyes. She was blond; she was barefoot; she wore an ankle-length white kirtle, of white wool, sleeveless, split to her belly. About her neck I could see a dark ring."
